What Is Breast Augmentation?
In most cases, breast augmentation involves depositing an implant or fatty tissue behind each breast. Whether the surgeon places the implants or tissue behind the muscle or not depends on the desired results. If fatty tissue is used, it is harvested from another area of the patient’s body. Implants are silicone or brine-filled sacks that give the breasts either a round or contoured appearance.
What to Expect from the Procedure?
Most breast augmentations are carried out under general anesthetic, although patients can usually undergo the procedure as an outpatient.
Incisions are made either in the armpit, the tissue surrounding the nipples, or just underneath the breasts. A “pocket” is then created by separating the breast tissue from the muscle. The surgeon places the implants in these “pockets” before stitching the incisions with tape or
surgical glue.
The “pocket” in the breast is created in one of two possible ways:

● Subcutaneous — Made under the muscle in the chest wall
While the sublingual method is quicker, the subcutaneous method delivers a more natural result.
There are many types of breast implants to choose from, so your physician will discuss all the options with you during an initial assessment. They include:

While silicone implants deliver the most natural shape and feel, they have been known to leak.
Saline implants are less life-like, but they’re generally considered to be the best option for long-term success.
What to Expect After Breast Augmentation
Your surgeon will bandage your breasts immediately after surgery. You may be told to wear a sports bra for the first few days.
Most patients are told to refrain from strenuous exercise for at least two weeks. But recovery periods can be longer for some people. You should be able to return to normal activity after a few days, but you may need a little longer if your job involves heavy lifting or strenuous activity.
You’ll see results immediately after your surgery. However, you’ll need to wait for the swelling to subside and for your wounds to heal to see the full effects of your surgery.
Breast implants aren’t designed to last forever. You should therefore watch for any changes to the shape, feel, or appearance of your breasts. Sudden changes might suggest it’s time for replacements.

Surgeons recommend delaying the purchase of a new bra for at least two months. While the breast is accustomed to the new placement of the implant, it is appropriate to wait and not rush into choosing a bra. Wearing lace bras or banana bras is possible after 3 weeks.
